When our clients found a beautiful piece of land in West Chicago, they saw the opportunity to create something entirely their own. Rather than adapt to an existing home, they could build a ranch designed around the way they wanted to live—and the places and experiences that had shaped them.
The homeowner brought a remarkably clear point of view to the project. Her travels abroad and childhood memories of living in Mexico City helped inspire a timeless aesthetic that feels collected, warm, and distinctly personal. Every room was an opportunity to express that vision through architectural details, materials, and custom features.
Our role at SG Home Builders was to turn that vision into a thoughtfully executed home, working through the technical details, coordination, and craftsmanship that make a highly individualized design possible.

Custom homes are at their best when the design says something about the people who live in them. Here, the arched openings, natural wood tones, and layered architectural details help give a newly built house the warmth and personality of a home with history.
A design with so many personal touches asks more of the construction team than simply following a standard set of finishes. Materials, proportions, transitions, and specialty pieces have to come together with precision so the homeowner’s ideas feel cohesive from one room to the next.
For our team, this was about listening carefully, solving details in the field, coordinating the right people, and bringing a very particular vision to life without losing the comfort and practicality of a ranch-style home.

A Vision Brought to Life
The homeowner later shared that her design inspiration came from travels abroad and childhood memories of Mexico City. She wanted a timeless home that reflected the places she had been, the memories she had made, and the things she had always loved.
Of the finished project, she wrote: “You brought my vision to life and carried out my design in each and every room exactly as I envisioned it.”
