Hinsdale Basement Built-out

What started as an unfinished basement is now a fully realized extension of the home—designed to support how this family actually lives. Every square foot was intentionally planned to balance function and fun, resulting in a layered space that includes a gym, play area, full bar, banquette seating, bedroom, and bathroom. The goal was simple: create a space that works just as well for everyday use as it does for hosting.

Thoughtful space planning defined the project from the start, creating clear zones for activity, relaxation, and entertaining while maintaining a cohesive flow. A custom glass enclosure gives the gym presence without closing it off, while the built-in play area was designed as a permanent, integrated feature rather than a temporary solution.

The bar and banquette anchor the entertaining space, bringing the same level of intention and finish found on the main floor. A private bedroom and bathroom add flexibility, rounding out a basement that feels complete, functional, and fully connected to the home.

This project reflects what can happen when a space evolves in real time. As priorities shifted and ideas developed, the scope and selections moved with it—creating moments where expectations and budget needed to be recalibrated along the way.

Our role throughout was to stay closely aligned with the client, helping guide decisions, provide clarity around trade-offs, and keep the overall vision intact. That meant adapting as needed while continuing to prioritize quality, functionality, and a cohesive end result.

The process required flexibility on both sides, but it ultimately allowed us to deliver a space that fully reflects how the family wants to live. The result is a highly customized basement that balances thoughtful design with well-executed construction—bringing the vision to life in a way that feels both intentional and complete.
